By now the golf season is in full swing, with all the knock-out competitions well under way. Unfortunately, the weather has been very inconsistent with unusually late frosts playing havoc with the greens giving Paul and his greens staff a few headaches. However, there are now definite signs of recovery. Club Captains Day saw us playing in gale force winds and our re-scheduled Anniversary Competition was played in very heavy rain. Nevertheless both events were successful with a great atmosphere in the Clubhouse afterwards. Thank you to all who braved the elements to take part.
We have decided to shelve the revised proposal for a driving range for the moment. In the end, the costs were too high and it was felt wrong at this time to pursue. Many agreed in principal that it was a good idea, but, given the current economic climate and the downturn in the oil industry, it was felt that this was the wrong time to take this to the members. However, the Q&A evenings which were held to discuss the original project highlighted our Club Voting System. We have received many complaints from members who feel our present system is unfair and does not truly represent all the members. We have therefore asked for your feedback on this matter. The resulting response was 85% in favour of Postal Voting for major projects. The Management committee will now have to decide how to take this forward.
The first green on the Short Game Practice area is complete and proving to be very popular. Work on the second green will commence in September or early October.
Our Future Development Plan is almost complete and will be published on the Club website. The plan combines input from the results of the members survey, work researched by the Management, alongside valuable advice from our Course Manager Paul Sharp.
Finally, I would like to wish everyone a very good season, especially all our teams representing the Club and those involved in organising our various events. The very best of luck to all.
Kind regards,
Janette Cook
Club Captain
