The Masters Pro Shop Sweep

They are saying it’s the greatest comeback in sport? What do you think? Well for me, it’s sure up there with Muhammad Ali being a 3 times world heavyweight boxing champion. All the doubters have gone quiet as Tiger showed his class once again and picked up his 15th Major.

I loved Butch Harmon’s closing remark on Sunday night of “Jack Nicklaus was the greatest Champion of all time but Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer of all time”.

A great effort must be said to the heroic Italian Francesco Molinari who battled bravely until finding the water on 12 resulting in an ugly double bogey. As they say, the tournament comes to life on Sunday afternoon on the back 9, Molinari is too good of a player to ponder on what might have been and will for sure rally back and win again.

Anyway here are the results of our Pro Shop Sweep:

1st - Scott McPetrie = £60

2nd - Dibble Milne = £35, Helen Edon = £35, Gordon Davidson = £35

5th - Graeme Davidson Jnr = £21, Harry Craig = £21, Jack Presley = £21

Studio update…

At long last we have received our hitting screen which arrived from the States this week and will be installed soon. There are still a few loose ends to tie up but we are very close to getting going. When Andy and myself have familiarized ourselves with the GC Quad technology and all the various services that this facility will allow us to offer, we plan to run a number of “fun open days” with a nearest the pin competition in the studio with details to be communicated soon. Here are a few images of where we are to date:

Mind the gap

Do you often find yourself stuck between clubs? One club will launch too far beyond your target whilst the other will leave you short. If so, you're either very unlucky or you need to come and see us for a gapping session.

Example of poor distance gapping

Distance gapping is the art of putting your set together whilst ensuring each gap between one club and the next is equal.

Take your wedges as an example. Say you have a PW with around 46 degrees of loft and sand wedge at 56 degrees; this 10-degree gap could leave you with a distance gap of around 30 yards or more! What do you do if you need to play a shot right in the middle of those distances?

The same can be said at the other end of your set, but usually this will involve two clubs going the same distance. If you have a 3-iron in the bag as well as a hybrid and a 5-wood, chances are you'll be hitting them similar distances - so it's time for one to go!
