Junior Pennant team result

The team hosted Kemnay on Sunday for their final match following two postponements due to rain, in warm sunny conditions a hard fought 3-2 victory was achieved.

As a result the boys have qualified as section B winners and meet Inverallochy in the semi-final at a neutral venue on Sunday 22 June, the other semi-final is between Murcar and Cruden Bay.

This is the first time in many years that we have reached the semi-final, a great achievement and congratulations to the team.

Junior Championship Round 1

20 players enjoyed decent scoring conditions on Monday night, the CSS was 70.

The top 3 scores resulting in large handicap reductions were:

  1. Jack Yule - nett 66, gross 80 (on count-back)
  2. Murray Spence - nett 66, gross 83
  3. Ryan Taylor - nett 68, gross 96

Ryan McKinnon had the lowest gross score with a 75.

A rumour was circulating that Jack played the whole round with the same ball, special mention also to Duncan Craig who is Mr. Consistency with yet another score bang on CSS!

Special mention also to an unnamed participant who amazingly managed to find their ball well into the deep rough between the 18th fairway and the practice patch, shades of Sherlock Holmes… who would have struggled to figure out how the ball ended up there in the first place?

Prize medal

The next junior medal is a strokeplay prize medal on Sunday, pro shop vouchers for the top 2 nett scores, the rumour of a £1,000 first prize is unfounded…..

Junior Championship Round 2

Round 2 takes place on Monday night, all to play for, good luck!

Junior Pennant semi-final - Sunday 25 June

We are waiting to hear what the neutral venue will be for our match against Inverallochy. Mark or Gordon will contact you all next week to confirm availability.

Ross on form

Ross is showing some good early season form. Last week at Downfield he managed to safely negotiate the qualifying stage for the Northern Open. Despite being 4 over after 6 holes he recovered to score a one over par 74 and finish in 14th place out of 82 golfers, with the top 59 securing their place in the field at Murcar. Ross continued his good form this week at Auchterarder in the Scottish qualifying heat of the British Assistant's Championships. 68 of Scotland's Assistants were competing for 17 spaces and Ross scored an impressive 68 (one-under par) to finish in 4th place and safely progress to next weeks' tournament at Coventry Golf Club.

Friends of Anchor charity golf day

Last Thursday saw the Friends of Anchor charity golf day. 120 players enjoyed a sunny day and helped raise over £60,000 in funds for the anchor cancer Unit at ARI.

On display in the club that day was the Scottish Open trophy which Phil Mickleson will defend next month at Royal Aberdeen.

A great day for the club to host and help support such a great cause.

How technology helps youstrike a longer ball

Picture that long par 3 that requires a sweetly struck 5-iron. It's an easier hole with a 7-iron in your hands, right? Brands work hard to make our golf more enjoyable; and distance gains are always welcomed...
